Oingo Boingo

The Southern Baptist preacher warned of the peril of giving in to “low and insidious temptation.” In the ten years between 1971 and 1981, a most perilous night at the University of Florida was Halloween, filled with Sex, Drugs, and Rock N Roll, year after year, attendees ALWAYS HAD A BALL.

For UF’s Halloween Ball (1981), Alligator editor Robert McClure encouraged his (mostly student) readership to take one last, celebratory bite at the apple that always left a bad taste in Florida’s always White Nationalist Christian Administration. Murphree, preached to his new students (400 young, white men), that most important to succeed at the University of Florida was that should join the Y.M.C.A., attend church every Sunday, and “DO NOT GIVE IN TO LOW AND INSIDIOUS TEMPTATION.
