The Miami Herald (managing editor Doug Clifton), was unwilling to publish a photograph of Mary McClain, at Tobacco Road, walking down the narrow stairs, with a bordello-1880s-style painting of a bare-breasted, blonde woman, stretched out across a large brass bed. This decision on the same day a 16th Century, Renaissance painting of an exposed Cupid-like figure was featured on the same front of the “Lively Arts” section.
