Vernon Reid* and Alex Skolnick* play “Up From The Skies,” Jimi Hendrix’ tune on his third record, Axis Bold As Love. The occasion was the release of Skolnick’s I’m Not a Robot, at the Cutting Room in New York City. Two days before, Alex had attended Reid’s release of Hoodoo Telemetry, his second solo album. At the time, Vernon met Alex with a “good to see you, and we should get together and play sometime soon. Alex answered with “How about Tuesday?”

It was fellow guitarist and friend, Alex Skolnick who announced that Vernon Reid and his band Living Colour had been booked, at Jimmy Kimmel’s personal request, to play the classic “Cult of Personality” on Kimmel’s show. The booking was significant in it came just after Kimmel had been returned to air, being cancelled by ABC, bowing to Donald Trump whining that he was being treated “unfairly,” and his “unfunny” monologues hurt his toddler-sensitive feelings.
“Cult” was scheduled to close the show that had featured Bruce Springsteen and Jeremy Allen White, the young actor who plays Springsteen in Deliver Me From Nowhere, the biopic to be released the next day.
The only thing we have to fear, is fear itself.
POLITICIAN — Reaching back to his playing guitar in Jack Bruce’s band, Spectrum Road, Vernon included the Cream classic on his second solo record, Hoodoo Telemetry.
