Freedom Sounds — After Barack Obama addressed the crowd that had assembled on the D.C. Mall, the first black president of the United States ceremoniously opened The Smithsonian Museum of African American History & Culture, a Washington achievement, the result of a laborious and diligent, 10-year effort. On this opening day, three bands played the party out. In the late-afternoon shadow of the Washington Monument, Living Colour, Public Enemy, and The Roots, all subjects of inaugural (musical) elements , delivered energetic sets, worthy of the historic moment.
