This is a present from a small, distant world, a token of our sounds, our science, our images, our music, our thoughts, and our feelings. We are attempting to survive our time so we may live into yours.
1977 — Aboard NASA’s Voyager, was The Golden Record, Carl Sagan’s Cosmic Message in A Bottle. Sagan curated The Sounds of Earth with hopes that it would be discovered by intelligent extraterrestrial life able to understand its contents.
1985 — Fantasizing about the receiving of his message, Sagan wrote Contact, a novel about such a scientist who travels to another world, or was it an imagination.
1997 — Contact starring Jodie Foster.
1972 — Before his solo career, Montrose was best know as the guitarist on Edgar Winter’s They Only Come Out at Night. with the hits “Frankenstein” and “Free Ride.“
2011 — Ronnie Montrose , in San Francisco, playing “Voyager” in at Wolfgang’s Vault. Montrose wrote the tune in 1980, and introduced it on his Gamma 2 record. It wasn’t long after NASA had launched the satellite, Voyager, on its mission to explore the Solar System. Since, the mission has far exceeded NASA’s original expectations. Voyager flew past Uranus and Pluto in 1989, and continues on its way into the Milky Way.
