Return to Forever
Miami Beach @ The Jackie Gleason Theater
2008 — Near the end of the 2008 Return to Forever Reunion Tour, Chic Corea announced to the crowd filling The Jackie Gleason Theater (The Fillmore) that the band was planning another World Tour the next year, and the possibility of a the future release of a Return to Forever album with all new material. It would be RTF’s first studio record in more than 30 years. The audience, filled with more (how should we say?) seasoned, sophisticated, middle-aged listeners, was pleased with the prospect. A number of creative, financial, and scheduling disputes, the classic lineup was unable to come together for 2009.
Chick invited Jean-Luc Ponty (violin) and Frank Gambale (guitar) to tour with the band, and for ten years, until Chick’s death, Return to Forever would play without Al Di Meola.
