Prince was a mix of James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, Marvin Gaye, and Charlie Chaplin. How can you miss with that?

Glam Slam (Miami Beach)
’94/’95/’96 — Prince opening a club, Glam Slam, on Washington Avenue played a big part in the 1990s Renaissance of Miami Beach. Prince, alongside Gianni Versace, Madonna, and many other celebrities and leaders in the business of fashion, food, music, television, and movies. All were staking their claim in the neighborhood called South Beach. SOBE to those in the know.
Billboard Icon (Biography)
2013 — It has been argued that Prince’s solo in “Purple Rain” is the greatest power-ballad ever played, and his performance of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” at George Harrison‘s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction opened the masses’ eyes to how good a guitar player “The Artist” was.
As impressive is how he can turn on the one, and bring the nasty funk of the masters, Rick James, Jimmy Nolen (James Brown), and Nile Rodgers, or shred with the aggressive, rhythmic, and melodic passion of Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana, and Ritchie Blackmore.
And sometimes his best playing is in the background, supporting the other players in his always virtuosic bands.
Prince is often compared to Hendrix, but Prince once told a Rolling Stone writer …
If you listen closely, you’ll hear a Carlos Santana influence, more than Jimi Hendrix.
Hendrix played more blues, Santana played prettier.”
All that might be true, but for those who do listen closely, the Hendrix comparison is undeniable.

Miles Davis (New Years 87/88 @ Paisley Park)
1988 — Until his end in 1991, Miles Davis was always exploring the future possibilities of Jazz. He was the only musician who played with both John Coltrane and Prince, and so many of the young musicians who he chose to join his bands, and then set out to change the world of music. As Quincy Jones with Michael Jackson, Miles working with Prince represented a similar, generational collaboration from the darker side of what became known as Fusion.
