Mountain Music
Songcatcher (2000) — Musicologist, Doctor Lily Penleric, had been denied a promotion in the male-dominated music department of the university where she teaches. Frustrated and determined to get her academic due, she heads to Appalachia with nothing more than a recording device, curiosity, and a determination to document the story of Appalachia Mountain Music.

Rock N Roll Origins
The seeds of Rock N Roll were first sown in the 1940s, when mass communication was the radio, and music was no longer bound by its Country, Region, State, or Neighborhood. You could be sitting in Jamaica Queens, New York City, in your bedroom, listening to sounds that before radio were only heard in a Mississippi Juke. Jazz, Rhythm and Blues, Boogie-Woogie, Gospel, Jump, Country,Western, Folk, and Swing … All were colliding in a most musical way. It was the radio that seeded the field from which Rock N Roll grew. While Rock N Roll’s musical foundation can be heard as far back as 1920s Blues, and 1930s Country, the name “Rock N Roll” wasn’t used until 1954.
