Doghouse Blues and Floyd Brown by stan badz

In “Casa Dega,” Tom Petty tells the story of a mystical experience with a palm reader in the small, Florida town, 100 miles southwest of Gainesville.

State Road 430A twists and winds, like an unctuously coiling rattlesnake, among the contorted trunks of cabbage palms and oaks. Spring sunlight sifts forebodingly through sieves of Spanish moss. Flecks of light scatter across the highway, bare and gray. Violets and wildflowers grow askew on sloping banks, festooning a veneer of green foliage.

Cassadaga is left behind.
